What is going on with President Trump and healthcare?

President Trump on Healthcare President Trump has been working very hard to try to repeal Obamacare also known as the Affordable Care Act. Through the administration, states are now allowed to impose work requirements on those who obtain Medicaid. “They will cut benefits for able-bodied recipients unless they have a job, are caregivers, or are in school” (Amadeo, 2018). The goal of this is to affect the single adults who were receiving benefits from the Affordable Care Act. On February 20 th , President Trump signed an executive order on healthcare that allows an alternative to Obamacare. There will be short-term healthcare plans that allow plans for just under a year. “The new rules stem from an executive order President Donald Trump signed in October aimed at boosting competition, giving consumers more choices, and lowering premiums” (Luhby, 2018). This executive order’s goal is basically to provide more options for people when it comes to health insurance. However, most sho...

Pros and Cons of Universal Healthcare

It is a common viewpoint that higher income families are basically paying for the lower income families healthcare. Obamacare actually mandates that everyone either pays for health insurance or else pays a tax (Amadeo, 2017). Unfortunately, this is not always enforced. It also helps businesses provide health insurance and it also expands Medicaid to lower income families (Amadeo, 2017). Generally the idea of helping lower income families is obviously a good thing, unless they are "cheating the system".  Pros of heal...

The Importance of Health Insurance

Health insurance is basically any program that will provide assistance in paying for your healthcare. Without health insurance, costs for healthcare would be extremely high. The Affordable Care Act which is also known as Obamacare, has a main goal of providing health insurance options that cover medical, vision, dental, and other possible types of healthcare that they may not be able to afford on their own. Usually when dealing with health coverage, you and your insurer each agree to pay either a percentage or a specific dollar amount. There are many different ways to get health insurance. Young people are allowed to stay on their family's insurance plan until they are 26 through the Affordable Care Act, you can get it through your job, governmental organizations such as Medicare and Medicaid, directly through a health insurance company, or through your state if it provides health insurance. There are many options, but there are many questions to ask yourself when trying to decid...

Hello everyone! My name is Rachel Kaiser and I am double majoring in Political Science and Health Administration. I decided to combine both of my majors for this project, which is why I chose the United States Healthcare System. My goal is to inform others on topics such as health insurance, who owns the majority of health facilities, and I also want to compare healthcare in the United States to healthcare in other countries. I also want to discuss the differences between a non-profit, for-profit, and governmental owned organizations. The healthcare system is something that affects all of us. I think it is very important for everyone to have some knowledge of how it all works, and I hope to provide that to you!
